Alabama CDL Practice Tests

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), through its Driver License Division, issues Commercial Driver Licenses. ALEA publishes the Alabama CDL Manual (updated April 2024) and a supplement on alea.gov. CDL knowledge tests are taken at ALEA Driver License offices.

What is the minimum age for an Alabama CDL?

18 for intrastate driving and 21 for interstate driving or hazardous materials.

How long must I hold an Alabama CLP before the skills test?

At least 14 days, per federal rule.

How much does an Alabama CDL cost?

$25 testing + $36.25 CLP + $20 skills test. CDL license: $66.25 Class A, $56.25 Class B, $36.25 Class C. Endorsements $5 each.

Does Alabama require ELDT?

Yes. First-time CDL applicants and first-time P, S, or H endorsement applicants must complete ELDT through an FMCSA-registered provider. Theory comes before skills training.
