How to Get a Oklahoma CDL

A step-by-step guide to earning your Commercial Driver License in Oklahoma.

  1. Decide which CDL class you need (A, B, or C).
  2. Get a DOT medical card from a Certified Medical Examiner.
  3. Complete federal ELDT theory training through an FMCSA-registered provider.
  4. Study the Oklahoma CDL handbook.
  5. Pass the General Knowledge test (and Air Brakes / Combination if applicable).
  6. Receive your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP); hold it for at least 14 days.
  7. Complete ELDT behind-the-wheel training if not already done.
  8. Schedule and pass the CDL skills test.
  9. Pay the CDL fee and receive your Oklahoma CDL.
